A potentiometer is a sliding electronic component that is often used in our daily lives. So do you know the principle of choosing a potentiometer? Today, manufacturers of adjustable potentiometers will share the selection principle of potentiometers!

(1) First, select according to circuit requirements and applications. For example, in a circuit with voltage divider characteristics, an output voltage regulator for a regulated power supply circuit is suitable. If it is a transistor operating point adjustment chip, it is recommended to choose an adjustable potentiometer. If it is applied to the volume control of cassette recorders, televisions, etc., we can use an exponential (anti-digital) potentiometer. If used for tuning, it is recommended that you choose a logarithmic potentiometer.

(2) Secondly, we can choose according to circuit requirements and application occasions. Carbon film potentiometers are suitable for ordinary power circuits with low requirements or good environment. Common wire wound potentiometers are suitable for applications requiring stable performance, small resistance temperature coefficient, accurate regulation or high power consumption of voltage circuits. Wire-wound potentiometer fine-tuning is suitable for circuits that require voltage or current fine-tuning. A trimmer wire-wound potentiometer should be used. Power type wireline-wound potentiometers are suitable for power supply circuits that require high current regulation.

(3) In addition, we can choose according to the installation location and use. We should pay attention to the structure and size of the adjustable potentiometer as well as the style and length of the shaft handle. Potentiometers with short shaft handles and notches are suitable for power supply circuits where resistance is not often adjusted. Usually, after adjusting with a screwdriver, do not turn it easily. Potentiometers with locking nuts are suitable for circuits with large amplitudes or operating in motion. Potentiometers with slightly longer shaft dimensions and adjustable threads are suitable for mounting on instruments or electrical panels. Small or ultra-small potentiometers with switches are suitable for volume control on small or pocket radios.

The above is a relevant introduction to the principle of potentiometer selection. It is recommended to carefully check the quality of the adjustable potentiometer when purchasing, confirm that there is no fault, and then install and use the adjustable potentiometer.
